Construction sites In New Delhi to appoint Covid-19 Marshals to supervise measures
Table of Contents
May 7, 2020: As construction work resumes, every construction site in New Delhi would have a Covid-19 Marshal to make sure that hygiene measures are being properly followed and sufficient supply of personal protective equipment (PPEs) are made available at labour camps.
As infrastructure ministries look to begin construction work in tier-2 and tier-3 cities and rural centres in the thrice extended lockdown, the centre has issued guidelines which make it mandatory for every labourer to undertake a health check-up and remain quarantined for a fortnight before beginning site work.
Thorough SOPs and guidelines have been chalked out for every construction site. According to sources, every work site would have a nodal officer or Covid Marshal who would be in charge for all the health, sanitation and cleanliness measures to be used.

Every worker would be required to specify if they’ve come in contact with a Covid-19 positive case and other health-related details.
All workers, including asymptomatic workers, would be then quarantined for a fortnight at the work site. No worker would be allowed to leave the labour camp after completing the quarantine.
Soap and sanitizer dispensers would be stalled at entry and exit points of the main construction site. The government has also banned all tobacco products from the work sites.
All labourers would be provided face masks, tissues, goggles and gloves. Those in charge of sanitation and cleaning of the areas would be given coveralls.
All construction material entering the site would be left undisturbed for three days. A senior official said, “This is being done so that the work site does not get infected. It is common knowledge that corona virus can stay active on any surface for 2-3 days. As we cannot clean building material, we are just trying to be safe.”
Every construction site would have weekly doctor visits. An isolation facility would also be created at the worksite in case a labourer develops a cough, cold or other symptoms.
