How to Take Pictures of Your Home Like an Instagram Pro
Table of Contents
Ever wonder how some Instagram pictures get a lot more likes and shares than others? That’s because these photographers use a few simple tricks to help their pictures stand out from all the rest. They don’t always depend on heavy editing; these tricks can be used by anyone to get the best pictures of your home.
Lighting is Everything
When you’re taking a picture, unless it’s black and white, the kind of light you use is very important. It is best to use a lot of natural light and stay away from white light. Natural light makes your home look brighter, warmer and instantly creates a more welcoming atmosphere. Open up doors, windows and curtains so that you get the best light for your shot. Look at when the sun shines in the brightest, like in the evenings or mornings and make the best use of that time.
Composition is Key
Most people tend to take 100’s of pictures and go with a picture that’s the best of the lot. This is not the best way to go about it. Spend a minute looking around your room or your house, choose a space that you want to showcase, compose your picture, see what looks good in the frame, if the lighting is right, if the colours look good, and then take a picture.

Interesting Visuals
Pictures that have interesting visuals get more attention that pictures that have nothing going on in them. For example, a picture of a couch is not as interesting as a pictured of a couch with paintings in the background, a rug in the foreground, some plants or a coffee table too. These pictures give the viewer more to see and captures their attention for longer. It should still have a clear point of interest, and not look cluttered, beauty is in this balance.
Place Things at Different levels
A picture with everything at the same level is not as captivating as one with things at different levels. If your chair, table, and the bed are all at the same level, it won’t be very appealing to a viewer. Try to have things placed at various levels. For e.g. have a plant on the ground, a light from the ceiling and a table that is either lower or higher than the rest of the furniture in the picture. This takes the viewers eye to different areas in the photo.
Get the Angle Right
If you take a lot of selfies, then you would know that the right angle makes all the difference. The same goes for when you take pictures of your home. Straight on shot lower to the ground are more pleasing to the eye when you are photographing your home. This way the viewer feels like they are present in your home and this is more aesthetically pleasing.
Remember, your home doesn’t have to look perfect, you don’t have to spend hours cleaning and styling either. Capture spaces that speak to you and that will speak to your Instagram audience. If you’re planning to rent out or sell your home, you can use these same pictures on NoBroker to find a tenant or buyer faster.
