Best way to pack clothes for moving

When I was opting for the packers and movers service, they told me that they were going to take the clothes out of the cupboard and pack it. However, I was quite skeptical about others handling my clothes and decided to do it on my own. I wasn't aware of how to do it so I called my cousin and asked her how do you pack clothes when moving. 

What is the Best Way to Pack Clothes for Moving House?

Here are the steps she told me.

She told me to choose which clothes I would like to keep and donate or discard and separate them. After separating them, she told me to wash, dry and Iron the clothes that I would be keeping. 

She told me that when it comes to how to pack clothes to move, I should always pack a moving bag. In that bag, she asked me to keep the essentials such as pajamas, underwear, shoes, etc. She also told me to keep an extra plastic bag in it to store the dirty clothes. 

According to her the best way to move clothes when moving is to fold the clothes properly. This not only saves space but also cuts down on the number of boxes you need. 

She then asked me to move all the folded clothes into boxes and seal them with tape accordingly. After that, she asked me to label the boxes accordingly.

Moving clothes from my closet to my luggage is a task I would want to avoid anytime. I am not very good at packing clothes but my sister is excellent! When I was relocating for my job she taught me a few tricks on how to pack clothes for moving cross country. I was amused by her hacks so I will share some tips and tricks that I have learnt from her. Hopefully these tricks will help you when you are moving for a vacation or even relocation.

Best way to pack clothes for moving:

1. The bigger your suitcase, the better. Therefore when packing a cloth always take a bigger suitcase. That way you can take your favourite clothes without choosing. I prefer a 22 inches tall suitcase with a structured shell to give an extra layer of protection to my clothes.

2. Take no more than five sets of socks, underwear, tops. Go for 3 bottoms, a pair of shoes and a hat. If there is extra space, take a sweater with you. (you can pack the sweater in your hand bag as well. Airplane's are chilly! you will need the sweater).

3. To maximise your space and minimise your wrinkles, roll your clothes. You can purchase packing cubes and keep your clothes there. 

4. You can try the bundle technique. Gently wear each clothes around the core with underwear and T-shirt at the centre and other items like blazers and dresses in the outer layer. 

5. You will notice there is a hanger on the suitcase. You can use this to hang your saree, balzers, or your fancy dress. One piece of cloth is enough for packing clothes on hangers.
