My mother said there should be designated space for the Durga idol in the pooja room. The idol should be placed on a pedestal or an elevated platform.
She said the direction of the Durga idol should be facing North or East. If it is placed here, positive energy will flow and it will bring more prosperity to the household. This answered my query about where to place Durga idol at home.
There should be proper lighting. Lamps should be placed and lit around the idol. The pooja room should have fragrant flowers and incense with some decorations.
My mother also said that the flowers and incense should be changed on a daily basis and the pooja room should be kept neat and clean.
Here are some mistakes to avoid while placing the Durga Idol at Home:
The Durga idol should never be placed in the bedroom or in a dirty corner at home.
The Durga idol should not be placed in the West or the South as this will erase the divine energy.
The idol should not be placed in the kitchen or bathroom. Placing the idol here is not a good thing. It would bring bad tidings.
Keeping these ideas in mind I am planning to place the Durga idol in our pooja room facing North and celebrate Durga puja properly..
