The word “Karta” refers to the leader of a joint Hindu family who manages all the tasks, responsibilities and handles the family business on his own. That person has the right to make any decisions, is the senior member of that family and handles all the responsibilities on his own.

Can female become Karta of HUF?
As per Hindu Law, the Karta of HUF should only be the person who has a right to be the heir. At birth, a beneficiary has several rights in the HUF property that a member may not have. A beneficiary can claim a HUF division, but a member can't. Your mother cannot become the Karta because she is simply a member of the HUF and does not qualify as a beneficiary to take control of all the responsibilities. As a result, if your father died, the eldest male member of your family would be assumed to be the Karta.
But, if you and your siblings choose for your sister to be made the Karta of the family since she is the HUF's eldest female member, this is legal under Hindu law. The Delhi high court stated in Mrs Sujata Sharma vs Shri Manu Gupta & Ors [CS (OS) 2011/2006] that an eldest female member of a family who is also the beneficiary in a HUF can become the Karta of the HUF. This decision is significant because it completes the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005, which altered Section 6 of the Hindu Succession Act, 1956 (HSA).
