Can I claim HRA for my own home which is occupied by family and I live in a different city?

Hi,

HRA tax calculations can only be made when you are able to produce proof for rent paid such as a valid house rent receipt. This means that even if your employer pays you HRA as part of your income, you cannot claim an HRA deduction if you do not pay rent.

Since you are not paying rent in your own home, you will not be able to claim HRA for it. However, as you are residing in a separate place, if you are paying rent there, you might be eligible to receive HRA.
