It is not hard to get polished concrete floors if you know how to clean them. We once hired experts for it and I saw the process, I understood the method and the next time I did it myself. So do not worry about the question: can I polish my concrete floor myself. Learn the process and try it.

How to get residential polished concrete floors?

Here are some steps that you can follow to get polished concrete floors:

  • First, inspect your concrete floor to check for cracks, holes, or uneven surfaces. Repair any damage with a suitable concrete patching compound and allow it to dry completely.

  • Acquire the necessary equipment and materials, including a floor grinder or polisher with diamond-grit pads, a wet/dry vacuum, safety gear (goggles, mask, and ear protection), a mop or squeegee, and a concrete sealer (optional).

  • Choose the appropriate diamond-grit pads. Start with a coarse grit (30-40) and progressively move to finer grits (up to 3000) for a smoother finish.

  • Wear safety gear to protect yourself from dust and noise. Ensure proper ventilation in the work area.

  • Clean the floor thoroughly by sweeping or vacuuming to remove dust and debris.

  • Attach the coarse grit pad to the grinder and wet the floor with water. Begin grinding in a side-to-side motion, overlapping each pass. Keep the grinder moving to avoid creating uneven spots.

  • Use the wet/dry vacuum to clean up the slurry created during grinding. Switch to finer grit pads as you progress, repeating the grinding and cleaning process.

  • Continue with finer grits until you achieve the desired level of shine. This may involve multiple passes with progressively finer grits.

  • If you want extra protection and a higher gloss finish, apply a suitable concrete sealer according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  • After polishing, maintain your concrete floor by regularly sweeping or mopping it. Reapply the sealer as needed to preserve its shine.

This is the basic process to get polished concrete floors. You can watch some YouTube videos for more references.
