I understand your concerns about privacy. In India, the installation of CCTV cameras is regulated under the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, which fall under the Information Technology Act, 2000. These rules require organizations to inform individuals about the collection, storage, and usage of their personal information and obtain their consent for the same.
Here are a few steps you can take:
- Discuss with Your Neighbour
: Politely explain your concerns to your neighbour and see if they are willing to adjust the camera angles or relocate the cameras to minimise intrusion into your privacy.
- Check Society By-laws
: If you live in a housing society, check the by-laws or rules of the society. Some societies have specific regulations regarding the installation and placement of CCTV cameras.
- Seek Legal Advice
: If your neighbour is unwilling to make changes and you feel your privacy is being invaded, you may want to consult a lawyer to understand your legal options and rights.
