Recently, one of my friends asked me, “Can NRI invest in Atal Pension Yojana?” I clarified to her that NRIs can invest in the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) if they meet the following requirements:
The age of an individual should be between 18 and 40 years.
He / She should have a savings bank account/ post office savings bank account.
From 1st October, 2022, any Indian citizen who is or has been an income-tax payer under the Income-tax Act, 1961, as on the date of application, will not be eligible to open a new APY account.
If a subscriber becomes non-citizen of the country, in that event the APY account will be closed and the net actual interest earned on his contributions (after deducting the account maintenance charges) will be refunded, whereas, the Government co-contribution, and the interest earned on the Government co-contribution, if provided, shall not be returned to such subscribers.
Your query about can NRI join Atal Pension Yojana should be solved.
