Last Diwali, before purchasing a silver idol of god, I asked my grandmother, can we keep silver god idols at home. She said, yes, I’ve kept silver God idols at home myself, and it’s worked out really well for me. To be honest, I wasn’t sure at first if there were any rules around this, but after asking my grandma, I realised there’s no hard-and-fast rule about the material.

Is It Allowed to Keep Silver Idols at Home?

My grandma informed me that silver is actually considered quite auspicious in many traditions, symbolising prosperity and positive energy. So, I kept a silver god idol at my home. For me, what really mattered was the connection and respect I have for the idols, not the material they’re made from.

  • I chose silver because it felt right, and I’ve found it easy to clean and maintain too, which is a plus.

  • I’ve placed them in a small, quiet corner in my home, where I do my prayers regularly, and it brings a sense of peace.

  • Personally, I’ve never run into any issues with silver idols, and I’ve even heard that many people prefer them for their longevity and ease of maintenance .

I think the main thing is making sure the space around the idols is clean and treating them with respect. Whether they’re made of silver, brass, or anything else doesn’t matter as much as the faith and care you put into it.

At the end of the day, it’s about what feels right to you. If silver matches your preferences with you like it did for me, I’d say go for it. I hope you found this answer helpful.
