To answer your question regarding can you use cement paint on wood, yes, it’s possible. This is a method preferred by several woodwork professionals. However, a thing to note is that cement paints differ in preparing the surface. Let’s take an example. Generally, epoxy or masonry paints do not stick to wood without proper preparation. On the other hand, water and oil-based paint types adhere well to the wooden surfaces without any sort of preparation.

To draw a conclusion out of this, you must prepare your surface in case of using masonry or epoxy paint. Otherwise, you won’t get the desired finish.

Process of using cement paint on wood

  • Cleaning

Begin by cleaning the wooden surface. You can apply pressure to get rid of dust elements lying on the surface. Keep in mind to apply the amount of water pressure as per the surface’s capacity. This will help you to remove any stains as well.

  • Leave it to dry

The next step is to let the surface dry out completely. Ensure that the wood is nowhere near any sort of moisture. I would advise you to do the task on a day with a clear sky.

  • Sanding

Remove any kind of old paint that lies on the surface. This is important because the new paint won’t settle on top of any existing paint. You can do the process through sanding with the help of sandpaper.

  • Fix the gaps and cracks

Once sanding is done, jump on to seal any gaps or cracks on the wooden surface. Use a sealing agent for this purpose. Follow the instructions mentioned on the label. After completion, let the sealant dry for some time.

  • Repeat sanding

Sand the wood once again to eliminate any bumps or unevenness that exists. After the process, clean the wood to remove leftover sand and dust.

  • Primer

Use a primer to help the paint stick to the surface. I strongly recommend using a light primer with light and a dark primer with dark colours.

  • Begin painting

Apply the first coat of your cement paint after the primer dries out completely.

  • Second Coat

Once you see that the first coat has dried, begin painting with a second coat of paint. This will help in a smoother surface and a beautiful finish.

I hope this helps you to understand if can you use cement paint on wood.
