Hello Aman. I came across your query regarding can paint for metal be used on wood. Yes, you can use metal paint over wooden surfaces. But there are some things you need to look at. Metal paints aren’t designed to use on wood. So, the paint will soak into the wood grain a bit too much. For this reason, I suggest you use a primer or a thin mist coat before painting with your metal paint.
You can also use metal paint over pressure treated wood. But, there’s a reason which makes me suggest you not to go for it. Let me describe it below.
Can I Use Paint for Metal on Wood that’s Pressure Treated?
Continuing from above, I don’t recommend using metal paint on pressure treated wood because a 12-month waiting period is attached to this wood before applying anything. The wood needs to dry completely and it won’t be practical for you.
This is all from my side. I hope you now know can I use metal paint on wood.

A few months back, I bought metal paint by mistake when I was trying to paint my door. I was feeling too lazy to go back and buy the right paint, so I called my uncle. I asked him “Can you use metal paint on wood?” Here is what he told me.
Can You Use Metallic Paint On Wood?
My uncle told me that I can use metal paint on wood but I have to use primer on the wood before doing so. He said that if the primer isn't used, then I may end up permanently damaging the door.
After this, he told me the steps of painting the door with metal paint. Here are those.
Prep the area:
He told me to remove the non-paint sections and protect them with newspaper covers.
Surface prep:
Then he suggested smoothing them with medium-grit sandpaper and wiping them with a wet sponge and dry cloth to remove moisture.
Apply primer:
Now, he asked me to use an acrylic latex bonding primer and apply it evenly. Then, I had to let it dry completely, which can take up to a day.
Paint application:
He also asked me to stir the paint thoroughly and then apply it. He also told me to go for three coats and let each layer dry before applying the next.
Finishing touches:
After that, he told me to lightly sand each layer if needed to smooth out any drips or bubbles.
And that is what he said when I asked, “Can I use metal paint on wood?” I hope this information helps.
