Yes, landlords make money by renting their properties to tenants in exchange for monthly rent. Renting properties is a popular choice for creating passive income. Though, there are upfront costs that one needs to be aware of.

Do landlords make a lot of money?

Yes, landlords make a comfortable living for themselves. Though, it depends on several factors i.e. location of the property, facilities being offered, amount of rent being charged etc. There are expenses—repairs, maintenance, taxes, and insurance—that are generally debited from the landlord’s pocket.

Some properties get rented out in an instant and properties remain empty for months on end. Becoming a landlord is not for everyone. As there are responsibilities that need to be upheld by the owner. eg If the tenant’s water stops working, the landlord will need to get the issue resolved. All the maintenance charges and repair charges need to be paid by the landlord (unless specified in the rental agreement).

For a landlord to make a large profit from their rental, the property needs to be located in a high-traffic area. This way, they have better chances of fetching higher rent. Only those who are willing to take the headache of managing property by themselves, dealing with tenants, keeping track of rent, deposit etc. Then, becoming a landlord and minting money is a good option.
