On the other hand, while travelling long distances, from one state to another, movers charge based on the distance. This is not necessarily based on the travel time.

Like any business, moving trucks also require maintenance, insurance, and fuel to run from one location to another. Additionally, there are toll fees which are non-negotiable and they need to compensate the same in their charges.
Labour Costs
These movers hire skilled professionals who pack, lift, and transport the goods safely. So, these charges are for their time and efforts, right from the start till they clock out.
Thus, to cover these expenses, packers and movers charge some travel fees. Some movers have their fixed travel rate while some charge on an hourly basis. When I moved to Bangalore, I didn’t have to specifically pay for the travel time, rather I paid for the distance, packaging, and the volume of goods.
