While painting our 2 BHK, I noticed patchy marks on the walls during its drying process. I called the painter to understand does paint look patchy when drying and learnt that paint can look patchy while drying, especially if the surface is uneven or not primed properly. It may also happen if the paint is applied too thinly or the roller marks are visible.

Why Paint Looks Patchy When Drying?

The painter explained to me that paint can sometimes look patchy while it’s drying, but it’s not always a bad sign. I learned this can happen due to several reasons, like.

  • Uneven surface: If the wall isn’t smooth or primed well, the paint won’t dry evenly and might leave patchy marks on the walls during the process.

  • Thin application: Applying too little paint or not overlapping strokes properly can leave patchy areas.

  • Drying time: Some paints dry unevenly at first, but a second coat often fixes it.

He assured me that with proper preparation and two coats, the finish would turn out flawless, so I did not need to worry. It's like a natural process, so I will suggest you wait a day or two, let the paint dry completely, and then check whether the patchy marks are still visible or not.
