Does Waterproof Paint Really Work?

I wanted to know does waterproof paint really work, so I asked the painter about it. He said that yes, waterproof paint actually shields surfaces from mildew, mould, and water damage. This is a type of shield that acts against moisture and water. He further explained how it works which I shared below for your reference.

Can Waterproof Paint Work?

He further said that waterproof paint is made in such a way, it makes sure water does not cause damage to the area that has been painted. These paints are best used in places where there is heavy humidity or direct exposure to water.

What is Waterproof Paint Made of?

He informed me that waterproof paint is made of a combination of resins, additives and pigments. Resins hold the pigment particles together and bind the paint. It further helps to make the coating more water resistant. 

The function of a pigment is to provide colour and look to the paint. Pigments are added as per the shade that is needed. Some pigments are added in large quantities and some of them are added in smaller amounts. Then the additives make sure that the waterproof paint is able to function at full capacity. Additives could be biocides to stop mould growth, or they could be UV ray absorbers that protect against harsh sunlight.

How Does Waterproof Paint Work?

He also talked about waterproof paint and its factors:

• Hydrophobic Properties - The Hydrophobic materials in waterproof paint push water away. A smooth microscopic surface makes water roll off from the surface.

• Film - Waterproof paint forms a long film once applied. This prevents water from getting into the surface. The film becomes firm and goes against the water.

• Micropores - Waterproof paint consists of microcracks and micropores which assist in water resistance and also allows paint to breathe.

I got waterproof painting done for my terrace and it worked. So does waterproof paint really work, according to me yes it does.
