Hi! I came across your query on drilling holes for floating shelves. I recently made a floating shelf for our bedroom and can help you with the drilling process.
What is the Process of Drill Holes for Floating Shelf?
Use frogtape to measure the distance between two holes. You can start by adding a full strip of tape which aligns with the top of the shelf, edge to edge and then pierce a hole where the mounting bracket screws should go.
Use another tape on one of the sides to see how much space will take up on the wall in terms of length.
After you have the tape configured, take off the tape and place it on the wall. See the shelves’ position by measuring the place for the first shelf on the wall.
Start with the bottom shelf and measure the distance you want it to hang from the ground. This distance should come up to the lowest part of the shelf. Also, see the distance you want to maintain from the side wall.
After you have your measurements written down, align the first shelf’s tape with a laser level. You need to align the screw holes with the laser line and not the actual tape pieces.
Start with the bottom shelf first and once you have your base shelf in the right place, take help from your measurements for the next shelves.
Take a look at the layout and once you are satisfied, use the punch tool to mark the holes in the wall where the anchors or screws will be.
After this, remove the tape and check the points where you’ll be drilling have a stud behind it. Take the help of your stud finder for this.
Drill the pilot hole and add your anchor if required. Then, drill in your screws.
This is the process for drilling holes for floating shelves. I hope it helps.
