Hello. I can easily tell you, how do you grout tile backsplash? I did the same for my kitchen with the help of a friend. We tiled the kitchen to uplift its look, but we thought of doing backsplash as it will accentuate the tile and also seal gaps to prevent moisture from causing damage. This process is slightly lengthy, so I am sharing the detailed steps with you below.

How do you Grout Backsplash Tile?

Here is how you can grout tile backsplash:

  1. Start by clearing your work area. Have all the supplies close to you to save time and work efficiently.

  2. Next comes protecting the surroundings. Lay plastic sheets across the countertop and secure the corners using painter’s tape. In case you’re removing old tiles, use a piece of plywood or hard plastic to cover the stovetop.

  3. Wear a mask, protective eyewear and gloves to protect yourself while working.

  4. Grab a putty knife and mix the grout in a bucket. Check the directions on the packing to make sure that the grout is mixed properly before applying.

  5. Mix till the grout consistency is the same as peanut butter, which is not too watery but is still easy to apply and spread.

  6. Grout hardens really fast, so mix sufficient to cover a small region. You can mix more as you move forward with the work.

  7. Choose a small region and spread the grout over the tiles at a 45-degree upward angle. The joints should be filled with the grout with gaps completely covered between the tile lines.

  8. Let the grout dry for a few hours. Our aim is to seal gaps between the tiles. To avoid making a mess during cleanup, remove excess grout covering the tiles.

  9. Once the grout dries completely, wipe the tiles using a cloth to remove excess grout.

  10. After 1 day has passed, seal the grout lines with a sealer. If the grout used has a sealer present in it, you can skip this step.

  11. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to apply the sealer and keep the protective gears on to protect yourself.

  12. Wait for another 24 hours, then you can apply caulk over areas where gaps exist, like the corners.

This is all. I hope you now understand how do you grout a backsplash.
