Hi Buddy! To answer your question, ‘How do you paint fresh plaster?’ Painting fresh plaster can be a bit tricky, but I recently had to deal with this task myself, and it turned out great. There was a lot of research I conducted before I painted the fresh plaster and I noted down the process.
How Do You Paint New Plaster?
Here’s how I did it in a few easy steps.
Let the Plaster Dry
I had to wait for the plaster to dry completely. It can take up to 4 weeks to fully dry, depending on the weather and the type of plaster used. When it dries, the plaster turns a light colour with no dark spots. To speed things up, I kept a window open and used a heater.
Mix a Mist Coat
Once the plaster was dry, I mixed up a mist coat. This is just watered-down emulsion paint, and it acts as a primer. I used about three parts paint to one part water. If you don’t want to deal with mixing, you can use a plaster sealer instead, but I found the mist coat worked just fine.
Apply the Mist Coat
Next, I applied the mist coat to the wall. You can use a roller for speed, but it can get messy, so I chose a paintbrush. I let the mist coat dry for about 24 hours.
Add the Topcoat
Finally, the fun part—adding colour! With the mist coat dry, I applied the topcoat using a “V” motion to get even coverage or you may do a second coat. I didn’t have to sand the wall or do any extra prep because the mist coat did all the hard work for me.
And that’s it! By following these steps, I ended up with a smooth, professional-looking finish on my freshly plastered walls. I hope this helps you understand how do you paint a newly plastered wall.
