How do you remove limescale from a shower head?

I recently noticed some brown, hard particles on my shower head which looked unsightly. I did a close inspection only to realise that it was limescale buildup which was caused by the hard water. It ultimately reduced the water flow of my shower head. I hence researched how do you remove limescale from a shower head. I was able to restore my shower head to its original and spotless condition, with the help of baking soda.

How Do You Clean Shower Head Limescale?

Here is how I used baking soda for cleaning my shower head:

• I prepared a paste by combining a cup of baking soda and warm water. I make sure it's in the right consistency, so that it sticks well to the shower head when I apply it. 

• After applying the paste, I left it for 30 minutes. 

• Then, with an old toothbrush, I started scrubbing the limescale deposits present on the shower head and rinsed it thoroughly with warm water.

As an alternative, you can use hydrogen peroxide, which is equally effective as baking soda. To use it, follow the below steps:

• Blend a half cup of baking soda and half cup of hydrogen peroxide together.

• Pour them into a watertight plastic bag which is large enough to fully submerge the shower head.

• Now, dismantle the showerhead and place it inside the bag.

• Then secure the bag with a rubber band. 

• Allow this portion to sit on the nozzle holes for 20-30 minutes. 

• Rinse the remnants under hot water in the shower at high pressure. 

• Wipe the debris around the shower head with a damp cloth.

The rest of my bathroom was looking clean and beautiful but those white patches were making the shower look shabby. Then, I remembered how clean my father’s shower head always looks. • Keep the showerhead in a plastic container or small bucket filled with white vinegar.

• Allow it to soak in the vinegar for 30-60 minutes. Make sure to not leave brass shower heads in vinegar for more than half an hour.

• Remove the showerhead from the container or bucket and rinse it with water.

• Use an old toothbrush to remove any remaining limescale.

• Rinse the showerhead with water again and clean it using a soft cloth.

• Reattach the hose and turn the shower on to remove any remaining limescale

• Pick a plastic bag that fits over your showerhead and half fill it with vinegar.

• Put it over the showerhead until it’s entirely submerged in the vinegar, using an elastic band or string to secure it in place.

• Allow it to soak in the vinegar for 30-60 minutes. Make sure to not leave brass shower heads in vinegar for more than half an hour.

• Turn the shower on to flush out any remaining particles left inside the head.

• Repeat the process if required until the limescale completely disappears.s
