How high should pendant lights be above kitchen island?I think for a light to be placed perfectly, it needs to be hung at least 75-90cm / 30” above the tabletop of the island. The light should be hung in a way where they don’t block the view of the people while they eat a meal on the kitchen island.
Single pendant lights for kitchen island should be hung roughly, 72” from the floor to the base of the light fixture. It should be 30 to 36-inches from the countertop. eg. If you have an 8-foot ceiling, the light should be hung 12-20 inches below the ceiling. This is how I calculate the best light placement.
If your ceiling is bigger, you should add 3 inches to each additional foot. eg. For a 9-foot ceiling, the light should be hung 5-23 inches below.

Just divide the length of the area into equal parts. This will make sure the light is placed in equal intervals. eg. if the kitchen island is six feet long. You should hang a light every three feet. Each light will be centred over half of the space.
