The power of GPA is one controversial topic. In 2011 the Supreme court stated that transferring property through GPA cannot be considered valid. GPA means giving a special power to someone to carry out legal and financial business related to property. POA acts as a representative. It helps in easing the business.

But you may ask if I have given the General Power of Attorney to someone, how long is it valid?

Well, as long as the principal is alive the General Power of Attorney is valid. Also, the General Power of Attorney can be revoked anytime by the principal. A General Power of Attorney can execute a sale deed only by the consent of the owner, so we should be aware if we are purchasing a property through GPA.

If a GPA sells the property without the consent of the owner a file can be suited against the person holding the GPA.
