I had a discussion with a construction contractor regarding the construction of my home. I wanted to construct a 10x10 wall but was unaware of how many bricks required for 10x10 wall. The contractor informed me that the size of the brick, the thickness of the mortar, and the wastage of bricks during construction will all affect how many bricks are needed to build a 10 by 10 wall.
How many bricks are needed for a 10x10 feet wall of 4.5-inch thickness?
He provided me with the following calculation to determine the number of bricks required in a 10x10 wall;
- Considerations:
One-sided wall (wall size= 10 feet x 10 feet or 120 inches x 120 inches).
Brick size (Indian Standard Modular Brick Size = 190 mm × 90 mm × 90 mm or 7.48 inch × 3.54 inch × 3.54 inch).
Mortar thickness 12 mm (10 mm to 12 mm) and
The wall thickness is 4.5 inches.
- Calculate the Area of the Wall (10×10)
Since there is a single wall, we need to calculate the area of the 10x10 wall.
10×10 wall length= 10 feet.
10×10 wall height = 10 feet.
10×10 wall thickness= 4.5 inches.
So, the area of 10×10 wall is = length × height = 10 feet × 10 feet = 100 square feet.
= Total Area of brick in square feet × Thickness of wall in feet
= 100 × (4.5/12) = 37.5 cubic feet.
- Determine Number of Bricks:
To determine bricks for a 10×10 wall, we need to first calculate the volume of a brick with mortar.
Each brick’s volume without mortar
= Length × Width × Height = 190 mm × 90 mm × 90 mm= 1539000 mm3 or 0.05438 cubic feet.
Each Brick’s volume with mortar (12 mm Mortar Thickness)
= Length × Width × Height = 202 mm × 102 mm × 102 mm = 2101608 mm3 or 0.07422 cubic feet.
Number of Bricks Required in 10×10 Feet Wall
= Total Volume of Brick Work/ Volume of One Brick with Mortar
= 37.5 cubic feet/0.07422 cubic feet = 505 Bricks
Taking 10% wastage of bricks. So, the number of bricks in a 10×10 wall = 505 +10% = 556 Bricks.
Hence, the total number of bricks required for a 10×10 square feet wall of 4.5-inch thickness is 556 nos approximately.
I also wanted to know how many bricks required for 10x10 wall (9 Inch). I’d really appreciate it if someone could provide me with the answer. Thanks in advance.

When we planned to construct a room on our first floor, we started calculating the total cost. We first started with the cost of bricks but without knowing how many bricks required for 10x10 room, we couldn’t move forward. We consulted with a builder and then came to the answer. So first, try to know the amount of materials required before calculating the cost. Since we constructed a 10x10 room, I can help you with how many bricks are in a 10x10 room:
How many bricks are needed for a 10x10 feet wall?
To know the number of bricks required for a 10x10 room, we first need to consider the size of the bricks and the dimensions of the room.
Let's take the size of standard bricks that are 7.5 inches long, 2.25 inches wide, and 3.75 inches tall.
Wall area:
To find the total wall area, you need to calculate the perimeter of the room and then multiply it by the height of the walls.
So in a 10x10 room with four walls, each 10 feet long, the perimeter will be 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 40 feet.
Since there are four walls and the standard wall height is 8 feet, the total wall area is 4 walls x 40 feet x 8 feet, = 1280 square feet.
Number of bricks Required:
Next, you will need to find the area that one brick covers. Using the dimensions of a brick, we find that one brick covers 7.5 inches by 2.25 inches, = 16.875 square inches.
To convert this to square feet, divide by 144 (since 1 square foot = 144 square inches): 16.875 square inches ÷ 144 = 0.1172 square feet.
So the number of bricks = 1280 square feet ÷ 0.1172 square feet/brick = approximately 10,906 bricks.
So just use this formula to know how many bricks required for 10x10 room.

Hello,
I was associated with a construction company. I think I can help you with your query about how many bricks required for 10x10 wall of 9-inch thickness. Let us start the calculation;
How many bricks are needed for a 10x10 feet wall of 9-inch thickness?
- Considerations:
One sided wall (wall size= 10 feet × 10 feet or 120 inches × 120 inches).
Brick size (Indian Standard Modular Brick Size = 190 mm × 90 mm × 90 mm or 7.48 inch × 3.54 inch × 3.54 inch).
The mortar thickness is 12 mm (10 mm to 12 mm) and
the Wall thickness is 9 inches.
- Calculate the Area of 10x10 Wall
10×10 wall length= 10 feet
10×10 wall height= 10 feet
10×10 wall thickness= 9 inches.
10×10 wall area= 10 feet length ×10 feet height = 100 square feet.
- Total Volume of 10×10 Wall
The Total Volume of Brick Work is
= Brick’s area in square feet × Wall’s thickness in feet
= 100 × (9/12) = 75 cubic feet.
- Determine How Many Bricks Required
We must first compute the volume of a brick with mortar in order to figure out the number of bricks required for a 10x10 wall.
- Volume of Each Brick Without Mortar
= Length × Width x Height = 190 mm × 90 mm × 90 mm= 1539000 mm3 or 0.05438 cubic feet.
- Volume of Each Brick With Mortar (12 mm Mortar Thickness)
= Length x Width x Height = 202 mm × 102 mm × 102 mm = 2101608 mm3 or 0.07422 cubic feet.
Number of Bricks Required in 10x10 Wall= Total Volume of Brick Work/ Volume of One Brick with Mortar
= 75 cubic feet/0.07422 cubic feet = 1011 Bricks
Taking 10% wastage of bricks. So, the number of bricks in a 10×10 wall = 1011+10% = 1112 Bricks.
Hence, the total number of bricks required for a 10×10 square feet wall of 9-inch thickness is 1112 nos approximately.
Therefore, we would need approximately 1112 bricks to cover the walls of a 10×10 square feet wall of 9 inches with the standard brick size of 190×90×90 mm.
It is crucial to note that this calculation about how many bricks required for 10x10 wall of 9-inch thickness is only a rough estimate and may change based on the layout of the brickwork, the width of the mortar joints, and the volume of construction-related waste. Always order a few additional bricks than you anticipate using for the construction project.
