I asked the builder how much cement required for 1000 sq ft house when my house was being renovated. He told me that it relies on various factors:

  • Type and purpose of structure,

  • The quality of the concrete utilised,

  • Size, height, beam length, and

  • The foundation's type

How much concrete for 1000 sq ft slab?

I have mentioned a simple calculation I used to figure out how many cement bags I need for my 1000 square foot 6-inch thick slab:

Given: Roof slab thickness = 6″ = 0.5′

Slab area = 1000 square foot

Mix Ratio = M15 (1:2:4)

a) First, calculate wet volume by multiplying the slab area by its thickness. Then, the wet volume = 1000 sqft × 0.5 ft = 500 cubic ft

b) Find out the dry volume of concrete by multiplying the wet volume by 1.54.

Dry volume = 500 cubic ft × 1.54 = 770 cubic ft

1 cubic meter = 35.3147 cubic ft

Dry volume = 770 / 35.3147 m^3 = 21.80 m^3

c) Total part in mix ratio = 1 + 2 + 4 = 7

1 Cement part = 1 / Total part = 1 / 7

The density of cement = 1440 kg/ m^3

Let’s find out the weight of cement using the below formula:

Weight of cement = 1/ 7 × dry volume in m^3 × density of cement

= 1/ 7 × 21.80 × 1440 = 4484.57 kg which is approximately equal to 4485 kg

d) Generally, 1 bag of cement has 50 kg. So to find out the number of cement bags for a 1000 square foot slab you need to divide the cement weight by the quantity of cement in 1 bag.

This will result in 4485 / 50 =

90 cement bags

.

According to the aforementioned instructions, a 1000 square foot slab requires a total of 90 bags weighing 50 kg each. However, you need to consult a civil engineer or a local builder to figure out the precise amount of cement bags needed.

Which is the Best Cement for Plastering 2023?

My father-in-law bought a plot two almost decades ago and now my husband is preparing to build a house on it. To know the building cost, he himself calculated how much cement required for 1000 sq ft slab will be required along with sand and other building materials. This calculation might not be exact but it can give you an approximate figure. You can also do the calculation for cement for 1000 sq ft slab easily yourself. Let me share how we figured it out.

How many cement required for 1000 square feet roof?

Now please note that not every place has the same price for the building materials nor does everyone plans to construct the same designed building. Such calculations highly depend on the

  • thickness of the wall

  • the amount of plaster you want to apply

  • the quality of the building materials and so on. Take this calculation as an example to know the number of cement bags you will need.

So let us start with the volume calculation for the materials-

Area of the slab= 100 sq ft which means it is 93 sq m

The minimum thickness of the slab should be 150mm

So 150mm = 0.15m

Wet volume = area * thickness of the slab

= 93*0.15 = 13.95 cu.m.

Dry volume= wet volume * 1.54 (as per civic rule)

Dry volume= 13.95*1.54 = 21.48 cu.m.

For building construction M20 grade cement is used so let’s take that as an example here as well

M20 = 1:1.5:3 (cement:sand: aggregates) = (abc)

Quantity of cement = dry vol * (a/{a+b+c})

=

Dry volume x (1/{1+1.5+3}) for M20 grade concrete

= 21.48 x (1/5.5}) = 3.90 cu.m = 3.90 cu.m

Density of cement is 1440 kg/cu.m.

And to calculate the kilograms of cement bags we will have to multiply the quality of cement by the density of cement

Quantity of cement in kg(s) = 1440 x 3.90 = 5616 kg

A cement bag is of 50kg

So the number of cement bags you will need here are

5616/50= 112.32 or 112 and a half bag

So the

cement required for 1000 sq ft slab is 5616 kg or 112 and a half bag.

I hope you have understood

Hi there,

I checked what Ms Shristi wrote about the amount of cement required for 1000 Sq.ft. slab. I would like to talk about ‘How much cement required for 1000 sq.feet area?’ Mostly cement is required for covering the external brick walls which include roof slab, brick wall, plinth, etc. So, let me share with you the cement required for 1000 sq ft roof.

How many 1000 sq ft cement required for external brick and internal wall?

  Cement required for external brick wall:

External brick wall’s length= 2(40+25) = 130 ft

External brick wall’s height = 10 feet

Brick wall’s height above roof slab = 3 feet

Brick wall’s depth below plinth = 2 feet

Total height = 15 feet

External wall’s height = 130×15 = 1950 sqft

Volume = 1950 sq ft × 9 inch = 1462.5 cu ft

Volume = 1462.5/35.3147 = 41.413 m3

Brickwork’s volume = 41.413 m3

The thumb rule for cement bags in external wall brickwork is 1.26 cement bags/m3 of brickwork of 9 inches ( The ratio of cement and sand is 1:6)

Number of cement bags = 41.413 × 1.26 = 52 bags

Number of cement bags required for internal brick wall.

Cement required for internal brick walls:

Length of the brick wall = 40+25+25 = 90 ft

Brick wall height = 10 feet

Brick wall depth below plinth = 2 feet

Total height = 12 feet

Area of external brick wall = 90×12 = 1080 sqft

Volume = 1080 sq ft × 4.5 inch = 405 cu ft

Volume = 405/35.3147 = 11.468 m3

Volume of brickwork = 11.468 m3

thumb rule for cement bags in internal wall brickwork is 1.28 cement bags/m3 of brickwork of 4.5 inch ( cement sand ratio 1:4)

Number of cement bags required = 11.468 × 1.28 = 15 bags

Total number of cement bags = 52 + 15 = 67 bags

I hope you understand how much cement required for 1000 sq.feet area.

 Hey,

Many service providers try to fool their clients. If you are getting a slab or a roof built, you must be thinking how many cement bags required for 1000 sq ft slab. Depending on the thickness of the slab. You can make your own calculations. I will share the formulae and other details below. Keep reading to know more.

How many cement bags required for 1000 sq ft roof ?

A construction builder shared with me that usually, for the casting of roof slabs, a nominal mix concrete like M20 mix concrete is used.

To help you calculate the exact number of bags required in slab or roof formation.You need to know that M20 mix in which the ratio of sand cement and aggregate is 1: 1.5 :3. This aggregate is used for the process.

The amount of cement required for the roof slab will depend on the thickness of the roof. The thickness can vary between 4 to 6 inches. We will assume and calculate the requirements for a 4 inch thick roof.

If the roof is 4 inches thick and is made of m20 grade concrete, then 76 cement bags (3813 kgs) are needed for thc construction. A 4 inch thick, 1000 sq ft slab will also require 76 to 114 bags of cement for construction.

This is how to calculate how many cement bags required for 1000 sq ft slab.
