How many smart cities are there in India ?There are 48 cities in India with more than a million people. 405 cities where the population is between 100,000 and 1 million people and 2500 cities that have 10,000 - 100,000 people. Not all of them are smart cities. From what I know 69 cities have been given the title of ‘smart cities.

Initially, 100 cities were nominated under the ICCCs Smart Cities Mission. The first set of smart cities that was declared, includes Bhopal, Surat, Bhubaneswar, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Varanasi, and Indore. Development of transportation systems, infrastructure, energy and lighting, city management, and connectivity is given importance.
Smart cities are appointed by The Union Ministry of Urban Development. The development of smart cities is planned by the committee in a way that the citizens lead a successful life. In the year 2020, The Smart City award was given to Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Surat (Gujarat). On a global scale Shanghai, Seoul, Barcelona, Beijing, and New York are the top four smart cities of the world. I have hopes that an Indian City will reach the top 5 as well.
