Hey there Raj,

Knowing How many times PPF account can be extended is very important for working professionals like us. It was not long ago that I realised we could extend our PPF accounts. But I believe I was quite late in understanding that and to save you from being that late, I would be glad to tell you how many times we can extend PPF account.

Get assistance from sale agreement drafting to loan application through NoBroker’s legal assistance services.

In 15 years, a Public Provident Fund (PPF) matures. However, the depositor is not required to close the account. It can be extended in five-year increments indefinitely. The account holder has the option of withdrawing the entire balance, including interest, and closing the account at maturity. However, if you want to get the most out of your PPF, you should keep it open until you retire. Compounding means that the longer you stay, the better your returns will be.

Here's an example of compounding in action. Assume you invest Rs. 1 lakh in a PPF every year. For 15 years, the average interest rate is 7.5 percent. On maturity, you should have around 31 lakh. It will take fewer than ten years to double this money at the same interest rate.

How many times PPF can be extended?

When you choose an extension, you have the option of continuing with or without your contribution. You must notify your bank or post office in order to extend your PPF account. You won't be able to make new contributions if you don't do so within a year. Until you remove, the balance will continue to accrue interest. Once a year, you can make a partial withdrawal.

If you wish to continue making contributions, you must complete Form H. The completion of the form is required. Otherwise, your account will be marked as irregular, and you will not be paid interest on further donations. You will not be eligible for the Section 80C tax deduction. If the account holder wishes to continue making new contributions, he may take up to 60% of the account amount at the start of each extended period - a five-year block. So, this can be the answer to how many times can PPF account be extended.

After 15 years, you can extend your Public Provident Fund (PPF) account for a block period of five years with or without making further contributions. You can extend it by a block of five years at a time as many times as you desire because your PPF account has no limit on how many times you can extend it. I hope now you clearly understand how many times PPF account can be extended.
