The Gruha Jyothi scheme is a flagship program of the Karnataka government that provides free electricity up to 200 units per month to all residential consumers in the state. The scheme was launched in June 2023 and is expected to benefit over 2.14 crore households. Eligibility All residential consumers within the state of Karnataka are eligible for the Gruha Jyothi scheme. This includes tenants and people from other states residing in Karnataka. Benefits Under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, residential consumers in Karnataka will receive up to 200 units of free electricity per month.    How much electricity is free in Karnataka?

As of now up to 75 units every month is free in Karnataka. However, this is only enjoyed by SC/ST families and has come into effect since May 2022. A consumer has to pay the full electric bill and the government will refund the cost of 75 units through the direct benefit transfer scheme.

  Will general category people get 200 free electricity units?

Siddaramaiah has clearly stated that every household will get 200 units of free electricity irrespective of what category they belong to. So as of now, only SC/ST families are getting free electricity but if Congress comes into power, each and every household will enjoy 200 units of free electricity. In fact, they have also pledged to stand firm on this decision and do more such activities for the public welfare.

 

I really want to save money and if this really happens, I will be so happy. So just wait and see whether Congress wins or not this year and when can we start getting free electricity in Karnataka.
