My kitchen needed a complete makeover and I was planning to convert into a modular kitchen. But before making a plan for the same, I wanted to get an idea of how much it might cost. To know about that I called a friend of mine who is an interior designer and asked him about the modular kitchen rate. Here is what my friend told me.

My friend told me that the price of modular kitchen depends on the materials used and various other factors. After that he provided me with a list that contained an estimated cost of various components involved in designing a modular kitchen. Here is the list. 

At the end he told me that the price of a modular kitchen could be somewhere between Rs. 1.33 lakhs to Rs. 4.5 Lakhs. He also said that it could go beyond that as well depending on the primary material, finish, accessories, etc.

I have been living in Mumbai for the past 12 years now. A few years I bought my own home here and I got a modular kitchen done. So, I can tell you that the modular kitchen price per sq ft can range between INR 1,500 and INR 4,000 per square foot for a modular kitchen in Mumbai.

How much does modular kitchen cost?

A fully functional modular kitchen can cost around Rs.80000 to 1 Lakh, it can be modified as per your idea and convenience. For example, while creating the remainder of the apartment's decor, modular kitchen designs and costs are not only determined by the amount of space available. While the size of the kitchen influences the cost of the interior, it isn't the only issue. The kind of panels, its functionality, shape and texture, materials, frame style, doors, and knobs are all aspects that influence the cost of a modular kitchen. This tells you about how much does a modular kitchen cost.

Let’s understand the price of the the main parts:

The average price of the compartments is around Rs.1200 per sq ft, plywood will be Rs.50 per sq ft, handles Rs.100 per piece and other small parts contribute to the price. For example, if your floor is of about 13 ft (32.5 sq ft) length and wall of 10 ft (20 sq ft) length, then the total cost will be as follows.

Total price of the compartment = (32.5+20) X 1200 = Rs.63000 approx

The price of the coating of the compartments vary from the quality of the laminate, let’s understand it for a total area of about 52.5 sq ft.

a) Acrylic laminate will cost around Rs.7875 as per Rs.150 per sq ft.

b) Glossy laminate will cost around Rs.4200 as per Rs.80 per sq ft.

c) PU Painted laminate will cost around Rs.21000 as per Rs.400 per sq ft.

The cost of the total electric and plumbing work will be around Rs.15000 to Rs.30000 and it can vary from place to place as per the rates of the contractor. If your work is easy, then the cost will be less. And if your work is a little bit complicated, the cost will also increase.

When it comes to creating a kitchen, choosing a material is crucial, and one must exercise extreme caution when doing so. To allow it to run for a longer period of time in the future, you should check for material qualities such as waterproofing, durability, and life. It should come with a water and termite warranty of roughly 10-15 years, so you won't have to spend more money on maintenance in the future.
