I bought a piece of land in Punjab in 2016 and recently I started construction of my house there. I was adamant to get solar panels installed to get solar energy and thus began my hunt for the same. I did some research around it and found out that there are many types of solar panels available in the market at various prices. Let me share with you how much solar panel cost in India.
Types of solar panelsThere are three types of solar panels:
- 1st Generation solar panel:
Mono SI and Poly SI
- 2nd generation solar panel:
thin film solar panels and amorphous silicon solar panels
- 3rd generation solar panel:
cadmium telluride solar panel, concentrated PV panel
The cost is based on the type of panel chosen, inverter, batteries, etc. Here is the approximate cost I was told:
For grid connected PV systems: between Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 75,000
For off grid solar PV system: around Rs. 1,00,000
But mind you there are some government schemes under which you can avail subsidy and these costs can come down. Since the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is promoting installation of PV systems, you can check for the latest subsidy scheme with the department for the same. I believe 30% subsidy is given for rooftop installation of PV Systems in residential, institutional and social buildings.
I had to pay an approximate of 55000 rupees for a rooftop solar system after subsidy and other charges.
