Hey. These days I have been thinking that I was spending a lot and decided to analyse all the expenses I do and water bill felt like one of the major expenses. That’s when I decided to figure out the average cost of water bills per month, and also, I wanted to dig into the water bill cost of neighboring households too.

What is the Average Cost for Water Bill Per Month?

I was quite surprised by the data and the following what I discovered:

• In my case, I live in a residential area in Nagpur and my bill is based on the amount of water I use, which is measured in units. Each unit equals 1,000 liters of water, and for my home, the rates vary based on how much I use each month.

• For the first 20 units, I'm charged ₹8.99 per unit. So if I use 15 units in a month, my water bill comes out to around ₹134.85. 

• If I go over 20 units, the cost jumps, and any usage between 21-30 units is charged at ₹14.37 per unit. 

• The price only increases from there if I use more water, especially once I cross 30 units. This made me aware of how much water I was using.

• I also found that commercial and institutional rates are much higher than residential ones, which makes sense because they use so much more water.

I have a meter installed, so my charges are directly linked to how much water I consume, and being mindful of that has actually helped me reduce the bill.
