Early this month, before getting our house painted, I had the same query about how much paint is needed for 1500 square feet. I consulted with a painter and learned that using the formula (Surface Area ÷ Spreading Rate) x Number of Coats, I can easily figure out the amount of paint needed. Since I have done the calculation at home, let me just share it with you.

How Much Paint Do I Need For 1500 Square Feet?

To find the amount of paint required for a 1500-square-foot area, use the formula: Surface Area ÷ Spreading Rate x Number of Coats = Litres of Paint Needed

Here is how to get it:

  • Surface Area: 1500 square feet.

  • Paint Coverage Rate: Let's consider 1 litre of paint covering 100 square feet.

  • Number of Coats: Suppose you need two coats of paint

So the amount will be:

Surface Area ÷ Spreading Rate x Number of Coats= (1500 ÷ 100) x 2 = 30 litres

So you will need 30 litres of paint to cover a 1500-square-foot area with two coats. Now this quantity might vary based on:

  • Number of coats you want to apply

  • Painting coverage per litre

  • Type of paint

  • Condition of the wall surface and others

This is how you can get a rough estimate about the amount of paint required, but for precise details, it will be better to consult with a painter.
