In India, a succession certificate is a document issued by the courts. My friend also applied for the succession certificate 2 months back. So he told me about the process of obtaining a succession certificate. The certificate is given to the heirs of a deceased person who died without a will, that is, without leaving a legal will. Let’s see how much time it takes to get succession certificate.

What is the time taken for succession certificate to be issued?

In order to receive a succession certificate, the court will print a notice in the local newspaper requesting any challenges within 30 days of publication. And my friend received it within 40 to 45 days. This is the succession certificate time period.

How to get a succession certificate?

  1. You must submit a petition if you are the applicant.

  2. You must validate it and present it to the district judge in the proper jurisdiction after paying the relevant court fees.
