Hi, I have two rooms, one with 10x12 and the other with 12x12, and I was planning to change their wallpapers. To know how much wallpaper do I need for a 10x12 room, I got in touch with a painter. The painter told me about a few steps, following which I was able to calculate the wall paper needed for the room.

How Do I Calculate Wallpaper Needed?

Here are the steps that he told me about calculating the amount of wallpaper needed.

  • Measure the Walls: He told me that, for a 10 x 12 room, two walls would be 10 feet long, and the other two would be 12 feet long, and it would be pretty easy to calculate the area of the room. For the area, he told me to multiply each wall's length and height to calculate each wall's surface area in square feet.

  • Finding the Total Surface Area: He suggested to add the surface area of all the walls together for the total surface area of the room.

  • Account for Corners and Mistakes: The painter also suggested that I add 10-20% to the total surface area to account for the corners and mistakes.

  • Calculate the Number of Rolls Needed: He finally told me to divide the total wall surface area by the usable square footage per roll. According to him, this will provide me with the number of wallpaper rolls I need for the room.

After that, I used the same formula to calculate the wallpaper for 12x12 room. Hope this helps.

How to choose wallpaper for bedroom?

A few days back during my home interior project, I was trying to figure out how many rolls of wallpaper do I need for a 12x12 room. To determine this, the interior experts helped me with a calculation. I can share the same here.

How Many Rolls of Wallpaper for a 12x12 Room?

The width of the wallpaper rolls and the height of the walls must be taken into account when estimating how many rolls of wallpaper required for a 12 by 12 room.

Take a measurement of the wall height:

My room is three metres high.

Ascertain the wallpaper rolls' width:

Rolls of wallpaper usually have different widths, such as the conventional 0.53 metres.

Compute the room's perimeter:

This involves adding the lengths of the four walls. As my room is square, therefore each wall will be 12 metres long. Consequently, 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 = 48 metres is the perimeter.

Count the number of strips:

To find the required number of strips, the interior experts divided the perimeter by the wallpaper roll's width. That would be 48 metres ÷ 0.53 metres in this instance, or 90.57 strips.

Increase the number of strips by one:

Rounded up the number of strips to the next entire number since I was unable to buy partial strips. Round up 90.57 to 91 strips in this instance.

Determine the entire amount of wallpaper that is needed:

They divided the total number of strips by the wall's height. That would be 273 metres in this instance (91 strips × 3 metres).

I hope this helps!

What is the Cost of Wallpaper for One Wall?

Although I adored the colour of my living room, I thought of adding some additional colour. I looked at numerous wallpapers online, but I was unable to determine how many rolls of wallpaper for a 12x12 room would be required. I reached out to my best friend for assistance because he had recently used Eurotex wallpaper rolls to decorate his room. I have mentioned the calculation that my buddy told me to determine the exact number.

How many wallpaper rolls you need for a 12×12 room?

Wallpaper may be a terrific way to add character and style when remodelling a space. But before that, it's important to figure out how many rolls you'll need to completely cover your space. The number of wallpaper rolls needed for a 12x12 room will vary depending on the following aspects:

  • Pattern of the design,

  • The height of the walls, and

  • Any windows or doors present

As my friend instructed, I purchased Eurotex wallpaper rolls of 1000 cm in length and 50 cm in width. So, only 3 wallpaper rolls were required to be purchased for my 12x12 room. Let’s check out the calculation I did:

Area of 1 Eurotex wallpaper = 1000 cm x 50 cm = 50,000 sq. cm

Then, I converted the area from square centimeters to square feet. As per the general rule, 1 sq cm = 0.00107639 sq ft. So, 50,000 sq cm will be equal to 50,000 x 0.00107639 = 54 sq ft.

Area of the room = 12 x 12 = 144 sq ft.

So, the total number of wallpaper rolls will be equal to 144 sq ft / 54 sq ft = 2.66, which is approximately equal to

3 rolls

Can I Put Peel and Stick Wallpaper Over Tile?

I love having wallpapers in my room because I believe they add patterns, colours, and texture to the space and make it more comfortable and inviting. If you’re planning to add wallpaper to your home, then estimating how much you require ensures that you don’t get too little or too much for your project. Read below to know the answer to your query on “how much wallpaper do I need for a 12x12 room”:

  • Use a measuring tape to find the lengths of all walls you are planning to install wallpaper on. Similarly, find the height of the walls you are putting wallpaper on. After that, add the lengths to find the total perimeter. Next, multiply the total perimeter by the height to find the total surface area of the room.

  • Look at the wallpaper roll’s edge to find two identical parts of the pattern. Hold your measuring tape’s end on a point in the pattern and extend it to where the pattern repeats itself. Note down the measurement to find how many rolls you will require for your wall. If the wallpaper has a non-repeating pattern, then you do not have to find any measurements.

  • Even though the total surface area is mentioned on the wallpaper label, the usable amount varies depending on the pattern and how much you require to trim to make it line up. After finding the measurement for the pattern repeat, use this to calculate how much wallpaper you can use per roll:

If the pattern repeat is 0-6-inch, then there are 25 sq. ft. of usable wallpaper.

If the pattern repeat is 7-12-inch, then there are 22 sq. ft. of usable wallpaper.

If the pattern repeat is 13-18-inch, then there are 20 sq. ft. of usable wallpaper.

If the pattern repeat is 19-23-inch, then there are 15 sq. ft. of usable wallpaper.

  • Even though wallpaper rolls come in different widths, they cover the same total surface area. Divide the total surface area by the amount of usable wallpaper per roll to find enough wallpaper and don’t forget to add an additional 10% to 20% to account for any waste.
