Hello. The standard height of kitchen cabinets is 36 inches in general. I can tell you in confidence because this is my job as an interior designer. I am sharing a bit more details related to the height of the kitchen base units. This will help you design your cabinets efficiently.

What should be the Height of Kitchen Base Units from Floor?

When I talk about base units, we take the general height between 870mm to 1000mm. This includes the plinth, too. On top of this, a 40mm kitchen worktop is counted, which makes the overall kitchen height 910mm. 

What should be the Height of Base Cabinets in Kitchen?

Now, when I think of installing a kitchen cabinet, the height will be set as 34.5 inches. To this, we, as interior designers, also add the countertop thickness, which is 1.5 inches. This brings the total to 36 inches, which is the standard height. 

Now, this number is taken because we consider the average user’s height. The countertop should ideally be around 3 to 8 inches beneath your elbows for a comfortable experience.

A few months back I got my kitchen redesigned with stock cabinets which were ready-to-assemble. For this, my interior designer suggested to me that I need to choose from standard dimensions that the manufacturer of the cabinets follows. Although this may not appear to be an issue, it is always good to know kitchen cabinet height and other dimensions to choose the best for yourself and your kitchen. Since I have a recent experience, I would love to share it with you and tell you how tall are kitchen cabinets for semi-custom cabinets.

Standard sizes are available for base cabinets, wall cabinets, and tall specialty cabinets. When picking a base cabinet size, keep in mind that the measurements are taken from the floor to the top of the cabinet box. The thickness of the countertop that will sit above the base cabinets is not included in the heights.

Kitchen Base Cabinet Height, Depth, and Width

Base kitchen cabinets, which are installed directly on the floor, are the workhorses of kitchen design. They are used to lay counters, install sinks, bracket dishwashers and ovens, and store pots and pans. Kitchen base cabinets appear to be capable of doing any task and also tell you how tall are upper kitchen cabinets.

The standard depth of base cabinets is 24 inches. Because the front of the countertop frequently overlaps the base cabinets, the overall depth (including countertop) is normally 25 to 26 inches, depending on the edge detailing.

Kitchen Base Cabinet Width- The most important variable is cabinet width, and each cabinet is designed for a certain purpose. Widths typically range from 9 to 48 inches in 3-inch increments, and are selected to fit both space requirements and specific functions.
