One of the most well-known examples of Mughal architecture is the Taj Mahal in Agra, India. The Taj Mahal's dimensions were supposed to follow the application of golden ratio in architecture, with the dome's height being 1.618 times the width.
What is the golden rule of architecture?
The golden ratio is, simply, the ratio in which a line is divided into two pieces, a larger and a smaller one. We obtain a ratio by dividing the larger by the smaller component. When the line segment is divided by the larger portion of this line segment, the result will be the same. This is known as the golden ratio. Historians and architects claim that this ratio has been used for centuries to create architectural wonders.
The golden ratio is used by architects in a variety of ways:- Proportions:
Buildings and structures are sized according to the golden ratio, which ensures aesthetically acceptable ratios between things like height and width.
- Layout:
To create harmonious and aesthetically beautiful compositions, architects place important features, such as windows or columns, in accordance with the golden ratio.
- Spacing:
The golden ratio regulates how far apart architectural elements should be, resulting in a pleasing visual balance.
- Fibonacci Sequence:
When creating spirals, curves, and layouts, architects often apply the Fibonacci sequence, which is closely related to the golden ratio. This gives buildings an organic and eye-catching dimension.
This ratio is present all around us. To enhance the visual appeal and satisfaction, scale, and proportion in modern architecture adhere to this general norm. Numerous man-made objects all throughout the world use this ratio, which is a natural pattern that has been discovered. The application of golden ratio in architecture is everywhere, from Leonardo da Vinci to contemporary photography.

How to apply golden ratio in architecture?
It is applied in architecture and design by using the mathematical ratio. Since it is related to the Fibonacci Sequence, the idea behind the concept is to create a perfectly symmetrical relationship between two proportions. It can be applied to varying shapes or objects next to each other (comparing their widths or lengths), or for forming a single shape like a rectangle (i.e. length = 1.618x width). The formula for calculating the ratio is A/B = (A+B)/A = 1.6180033987, though this number is often rounded in practical applications to be easier to work with. 1:1.618 or 1:1.62 may be used in these cases. Few synonyms of the term are Golden Mean, The Golden Section, or the Greek letter phi, The principles of the neo-classical architecture movement are reused time and time again. The golden ratio is used to create pleasing dimensional relationships between the width of a building and its height among other structural support. This is all from my end on the application of golden ratio. I understand it seems complicated at the start. Read more : What is landscape architecture? What is a chalet home ?
