Grout sealer is a specialised liquid or gel substance applied to the grout lines between tiles. Its primary purpose is to protect the grout from stains, moisture penetration, and mould growth. This helps maintain the integrity and appearance of tiled surfaces, especially in areas like bathrooms and kitchens. The process of applying grout sealer to shower walls gets easy once you know the steps. Our shower walls remain wet almost throughout the day and in the rainy season I witnessed mould growth on them so learning this process became necessary. I learned how to apply grout sealer online and implemented it as well. The result was perfect.

How to apply grout sealer in shower?

To apply the grout sealer you have to begin by ensuring your shower walls are clean and dry. Remove any soap scum, mould, or mildew using a suitable cleaner and allow the walls to dry completely before proceeding. Here is what more you need to do:

  • Proper ventilation is crucial during this process due to potential fumes from the sealer. So make sure to open windows or doors to maintain airflow.

  • Gather the necessary materials, including a high-quality grout sealer, gloves, an applicator brush or roller, clean cloths, and a container for the sealer.

  • Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the sealer container. Different sealers may have specific application methods and drying times so read all details minutely.

  • Pour a small amount of sealer into your container next. Dip the applicator brush or roller into the sealer and apply it evenly to the grout lines on the shower walls. Start working with small sections first.

  • Next, wipe off any excess sealer from the tiles with a clean cloth. Avoid letting it dry on the tile surface.

  • Continue applying and wiping off the sealer in small sections until you cover all the grout lines on the shower walls.

  • Allow the sealer to dry as per the manufacturer's instructions. This typically takes a few hours.

  • After drying, test the water resistance by splashing some water on the grout. If it beads up, the sealer is effective.

Applying grout sealer to shower walls in this way was really helpful for me and I am sure will be for you all as well.
