I am a newly married woman from Chennai. After my marriage, I had to transfer and apply for a lot of documents at my in-law’s address. One such document was applying for a ration card. It was during this time that my husband and I learned how to apply ration card for newly married in TamilNadu.

As we all know a ration card is a document that is issued to households based on their income by the separate state governments. They are given to families in India who are below the poverty line (BPL), over the poverty line (APL), or Antyodaya Families, which include Indian citizens. 

Ration cards are issued by the Public Distribution System to allow for the purchase of essential commodities or items at nominal prices. Fair price shops are established with the goal of providing such items to these households.

I am going to share what we learned about the application process. To apply for a ration card for newlyweds, there are several requirements that must be met. Both families, the one that is related to the girl and the one that the girl's husband belongs to, must follow these steps. 

This is done because the girl has moved from one residence to another. She is now regarded as a member of her husband's family rather than her paternal one.

As a result, both of these families will need to make the necessary changes to their ration cards: 

• The name of the girl is removed from his father's ration card and added to her husband's

• The girl's paternal family must request a cancellation certificate, which will serve as documentation that the member's name has been removed from the family

• Valid Marriage Certificate of the parties issued by the appropriate court

• The original ration card of the husband

• Submitting the deletion certificate issued to the parents of the bride

• Proof of identity of both the couple

• The married couple must also submit a Marriage Certificate and a Name Change Certificate with their application for a new ration card

In the presence of the authorised registrar, the couple can record their request to have their names removed from their family ration cards by signing an undertaking on a stamped bond paper of Rs 100.

Here you can download the application form and after applying, you will be provided with an acknowledgement slip.  Finally, post verification, you will get your new card within 1-2 months.

What I learned from her, in Andhra Pradesh, newly married couples can apply for a new ration card through VRO, EPDS, DEO, and MRO. Before applying for a new ration card, couples must first delete their names from their family ration cards. 

At the Mee Seva centre, you can add or remove members from your ration card. The revised application form, as well as the deletion certificate, marriage certificate, and other supporting papers, can be presented to the VRO, Municipality, or Mondal offices.
