My childhood best friend is a south Indian and I have spent years standing in her beautiful kitchen eating delicious food made by amma. I am addicted to her cooking and not one single day passes when I don’t appreciate that in my life. As a kid I was always so fascinated by how different her home was than mine. The kitchen, oh the kitchen was something else. So warm and so welcoming. South Indian kitchen has its own charm. Anyway, I think I can help you know how to arrange south Indian kitchen with my experiences in one.
Ways to arrange south Indian kitchenIn my understanding a south Indian kitchen is high on functionality and aesthetics. Her kitchen was spacious enough to accommodate all the appliances, and utensils along with 3 children like us who would hog on food like they never had it before.
Get appliances for your kitchen at affordable pricesThey had wooden cabinets wherein amma kept her mixer grinder, mortar pestle, all the utensils and gas cylinder. In the upper section (it was open), all the spices and pulses were stored. Apart from that she had a pantry space where she kept all the spices and freshly grounded them. Let me tell you those are heavy-duty drawers and cabinets. Still going strong.
She had a dedicated cabinet for pickles and pastes. We absolutely loved them.
The thing is, there was so much in that heavenly kitchen and nothing was cluttered. She kept the place clean, well-maintained and organised.
