Hi there. I usually feel very excited to paint a room, but one thing that bothers me a lot is the roller stripes. During my last paint job, I finally figured out how to avoid stripes when painting with a roller. I have shared the steps here with you. The first thing I did was choose the right roller.
How to Avoid Roller Marks When Painting Ceiling?
The following is a guide that I followed to avoid roller stripes while painting on a wall:
I learned that a low-nap roller works best for smooth walls. I made sure the surface was clean and smooth, patching any holes.
When I started painting, I found that applying light, even pressure, helped prevent streaks. Rolling too hard can actually leave marks, so I was careful to roll in a ‘W’ pattern.
I made sure to keep a "wet edge", basically, I worked fast enough so the paint didn’t dry between strokes.
On a humid day, I noticed the paint dried slower, which helped the roller glide more smoothly. But when it was too hot, the paint dried too quickly, and I had to work faster.
Finally, after I finished painting, I took a good look at the wall under different lighting. If I saw any streaks, I used a little fine-grit sandpaper to smooth them out and then touched up with another coat of paint.
This is how to avoid roller marks when painting walls. Last time, the finish was smooth and professional, with no streaks or roller marks. Hope this helps if you’re taking a painting project too and worried about streaks.
