In a world where you can be anything, be what you really want to be. This is what my English teacher used to tell us. She was really passionate about literature and teaching and that was so inspiring. I have developed the same ideology and now I have my kids who are at a stage where they are deciding what they want to do in life. My daughter has creative instincts and has decided to pursue interior designing. So I thought may be I should also get involved and help her out. I looked up how to become an interior designer in India and there were so many articles that I came across.

This is the information which I found helpful.

Courses:

Diploma in Interior Designing, PG Diploma in Interior Designing, Bachelor of Interior design, master of interior design

Fees

: Depends on the course length, institution but ranges between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,00,000

Colleges

: There are plenty in India, choose the best one that fits your needs and budget

After college you can appear for NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design) exam. You can work as a freelancer or join internships in Interior Designing (this can be done during your course as well).

Some of the important skills an interior designer must possess are:

  • Planning

  • Coordinating

  • Effective communication

  • Research analysis

  • Project management

  • Site quality management

  • Construction management

  • Space management

  • Developmental skills

  • Project execution

You can work in the hospitality sector, buildings, residential houses, corporate, etc.

This is the road my daughter has decided to travel on. I hope now you are a tad bit clear about how to become an interior designer in India.
