A bunk bed with a desk underneath is an excellent way to save space in a small room. I have recently built one for me and my brother’s kids. The top bunk is easy to get into and the desk underneath has a lot of space to work comfortably. Let me help you build adults and kids bunk bed with desk:

How to Build a Bunk Bed with Desk Underneath: Process Mounting the frame on the wall

Apply 4-inch wood screws for mounting the frame onto the walls, then use 1x6s on the length of the frame for making a platform and screw these to the 2x4s.

Attaching the bed

Attach an eyelet screw to the end of the bed and connect it to the wall using airline cable wire.

Creating and installing a ladder

You can make rails and steps using 1×4 select pine and dowels. Add 1.5-inch to the measurement of the bed’s height on the wall. For calculating the angle at which the ladder needs to lean, use a speed square to trace a line from the rail end to around 7-inch down.

Use a jigsaw to cut this and then place the rails on top of each other and outline the same line for matching them exactly.

If you want a five-step ladder, then divide the height of the rails by 6 to ensure spaces for every step. Mark the measurements on rails and use a 1-1⁄4-inch spade drill bit for making a pocket on rails.

Creating and installing ladder rails

For the ladder rails, use 1-¼’ dowels, cut to 15-inch lengths. Apply wood glue for each dowel notch, line it up, and drill with a 2-inch wood screw into the rail on all sides, directly into the dowel, which will ensure excellent support.

Creating a safety rail

Making a safety rail with a measurement of 14-inch tall by 54-inch long is the last step. With 2×2 pine, make a grid, use wood glue and pocket screws. Connect all pieces to the bed.
