In the construction process known as brick bat coba, broken bricks, also referred to as brick bats, are used to fill the crevices between whole bricks in a wall. I know many of us are not aware of this material. Even I wasn’t, until a few months back. But I should tell you that this method aids in enhancing the wall's stability and strength while also limiting air and moisture infiltration. It is one of the earliest waterproofing techniques, including the installation of brickbats on a flat RCC roof and grouting them with a waterproofing material that has a slope to drain surface water. I will share with you all that I know about Brick Coba rate with material.

Brick Bat Coba quantity calculation

You need to be aware of the following elements in order to calculate the cement consumption for brick bat coba:

  1. Total surface area of the wall that will be coated in brick, bat, and coba.

  2. Coba thickness: Coba layer thickness that will be used

  3. Brick-sized bat: how big the brick bats that are being used

  4. ratio for cement mortar: The mortar's cement-to-sand mixture ratio

Once you have these numbers, you may use the calculation below to determine how much cement you will need:

Wall area (in sq m) x Coba thickness (in cm) x Cement mortar ratio / 1000 = Cement use (in kg)

The cement consumption would be 100 x 1 x 1/3 / 1000 = 0.033 kg/sqm if the wall area was 100 sqm, the coba thickness was 1 cm, the brick bat size was 2.5 x 10 x 7.5 cm, and the cement mortar ratio was 1:3.

The actual cement consumption may differ from this estimation depending on the particular conditions and demands of your project. To obtain a more precise estimate, it is always a good idea to speak with a masonry specialist.

Brick Bat Coba waterproofing cement consumption

We will now estimate the cost of performing Brick Bat Coba. We will first determine how much cement, stone dust, and bricks we require. We will then figure out how much our chemical and fibre mesh will require after that.

If we want to waterproof a 100-square-foot area using coba, how much brick, cement, and stone dust will we need? If a coat 25 cm thick was put both below and above the bricks.

One brick has a known area of 9 x 4 inches, or 0.2475 square feet.

The number of bricks needed for 100 square feet is 100 divided by 0.2475, or 404.

How much sand and cement are needed now? Cover the brickwork above and below with a 25 cm thick layer.

The total volume of mortar = Area x Thickness

So, that means 100 x 0.82021 = 82cubic ft. (1 cm = 0.0328084)

Sand,

Ratio of cement in mortar = 1:5

Sum of ratio = 1+5 = 6

Sand required = Volume of mortar x Sand ratio x 1.54 / Sum of ratio

Sand required = 82 x 5 x 1.54 / 6 = 105.23 cubic ft.

Mortar is applied below the brick and above the brick, so that mortar is required two times then the net quantity of sand is = 105.23 x 2 = 210.46 cubic ft.

Cement,

Cement required for 1 cubic meter = 8 bags (1 m3 = 35.33 cubic.ft.)

Total cement required 210.46/35.32 x 8 = 47.66 ≈ 48 bags

Calculate how much chemical and fiber mesh required?

Fibre mesh measures 50 metres in length and 1 metre in breadth. This size will cover a 100 square foot area and one waterproofing chemical cane weighs around 225 kg.

1 sq. ft. Only 500g of waterproofing chemicals are needed for 100 square feet. The quantity of chemicals needed is 50 kg.

The sunken area, which may include the wall side area, may grow, requiring you to buy 100kg of chemicals.

I had never known about brick bat coba until last year when my father explained it to me while there was construction going on in one of our relative's’ houses. It is a method of waterproofing but lasts for a shorter period of time. The

brick bat coba waterproofing material consumption calculation seemed hard to me initially but after watching the process myself and having discussion with my father regarding it, things became really very clear to me. I can give you all an idea as well.

At first it is important to know about the materials quantity. Suppose we have a 100 sq ft area where we will be doing brick bat coba waterproofing and the coating is going to be 25cm

Area of 1 brick= 9”*4”= 0.2475 sq ft

Brick require for 100 sq ft= 100/0.2475 = 404

Volume of brick bat cement concrete or mortar = area*thickness

=100*0.82021= 82 cubic ft (1cm = 0.0328084)

This is going to be the brick bat coba cement consumption amount.

Cement we use in mortar= 1:5 whose sum is 1+5=6

  Sand

Sand required = vol of mortar * sand ratio * 1.54/ sum of ration

Sand required = 82*5*1.54/6 = 105.23 cubic ft

Mortar is required in double quantity as it is applied both below and over the brick so mortar = 105.23*2= 210.46 cubic ft

  Brick Bat Coba cement consumption

Cement required for 1 cubic metre = 8bags

Total cement = 210.46/35.32 * 8 = 47.66= 48 bags

Chemicals and mesh are also required for the purpose but it is best to know about it from the builders.

I hope this will give you an idea about

brick bat coba waterproofing material consumption.

How to calculate cement consumption in Brick Bat Coba?

Hi,

For flat RCC roofs, Brickbat Coba waterproofing is an excellent solution to provide waterproofing and insulation for thermal comfort while preventing water loss.

It is one of the oldest waterproofing techniques, and it entails putting brickbats on a flat RCC roof and grouting them with a waterproofing solution with a slope to drain surface water.

If the slab top has already been treated, the coating must be removed and the surface cleaned with a hard wire brush before being washed with water.

If you want to buy or sell your property check the NoBroker home page Brick bat coba material calculation:

The slurry is mixed with cement and water until it reaches the desired consistency. It must be gently coated with brushes over the dampened surface, including the seams between the floor slab and the parapet wall, holes on the surfaces, and pipe joints in masonry or concrete.

2.75 kg of cement per square metre is the recommended slurry application quantity. The slurry's pot life should be estimated at 1/2 hour.

The slurry should be used until it reaches a height of 300 mm above the parapet wall.

The application of a 25mm thick base coat occurs shortly after the slurry application, while the application is still green. A 25 mm thick cement plaster with a 1:4 mix ratio is evenly spread over the concrete surface. This will give you an estimate about how to calculate cement consumption in brick bat coba.
