You can use our Concrete Calculator to calculate how much concrete you need. Simply input the desired length, width, and thickness of the concrete along with its strength (PSI) and it will give you the exact amount of concrete needed for your project.

Constructing a house is a huge deal and you need to take care of every aspect. How much material is required, how much labour you’ll need, how many days will it take to complete the structure and what not. Similarly, I understand that you might have questions regarding how to calculate cement in concrete. In my struggle to find an answer to this question, I learned that it depends on various factors. My contractor helped me realise those and based on it I could understand the calculations easily. I will share with you my experience and I hope it helps you out.

Factors affecting calculation of concrete and cement in concrete
  • What is the durability of concrete

  • What is the compressive structure and strength of concrete

  • What is the on-site quality control of concrete

  • What are the site conditions

  • What are the shipping charges and labour rates

These are the top factors that come to my mind when struggling to figure out how to calculate cement in concrete.

How to calculate concrete?

Let us first understand this before jumping on to cement in concrete. To calculate concrete you need to know the following things:

  • Thickness of concrete you need

  • Length and width you need to cover

So considering the concrete will have a mix of cement, crushed stones, and sand in a ratio of 1:2:4. Now assuming bulk density of cement is 1440 Kg/m

3

, sand = 1450 Kg/m

3

, coarse aggregates as 1500 Kg/m

3

and dry volume of materials in 1 cum of concrete is 1.54.

So, how to calculate cement in concrete? This is how:

Quantity of Cement in 1 CUM Concrete will be = 1.54x 1/7 x 1440 =

316.8

kgs using the formula: Quantity of Materials in kgs = Dry Volume of Materials X (Portion of materials in Ratio / Sum of Ratios ) X Density of Materials

Using this formula, the sand requirement for the same quantity will be 638 kgs while the quantity of aggregates will be 1320 kgs.

I hope this helps you out.
