I always get confused when it comes to units of measurements of length and area and make mistakes. So, I gave plenty of time to grasp that and learned how to measure a land in square feet too. Now I am so clear with it and I recently needed to calculate the land area for my new property, and I used a simple way to do it that I think you’ll find helpful too.

How to Measure Land in Square Feet?

  • First, I measured the length and width of the land using a tape measure. It’s important to make sure you’re measuring in feet, as that’s the standard unit for square feet.

  • For example, if my land is 30 feet wide and 50 feet long, I would write it down like this: Length = 50 feet and Width = 30 feet.

  • Now, here comes the easy part! To find the area in square feet, I just multiplied the length by the width:

Area = Length x Width

Area = 50 feet x 30 feet = 1500 square feet.

And that’s it! Now I know that my land area is 1,500 square feet. If you have odd-shaped land, just break it down into smaller rectangles or squares, calculate each area, and then add them together.

This straightforward calculation helped me figure out how much space I have for landscaping and any future projects. If you're planning to buy or sell property, knowing the square footage can really come in handy. I hope my answer helps you understand how to calculate land in square feet.
