I change my wardrobe look and design it in a creative way once every 5 years. I get bored of things very easily, so I prefer to give them a different look every time.  If you want to change your old wardrobe look to a whole new look, you need to decide the design first. When you are done with deciding the design of the wardrobe, start measuring the length and width of the area. You should take accurate measurements of the place where you want to fit the wardrobe. And then you can start fitting your wardrobe as per your requirement. Let’s see how to calculate square feet of wardrobe.

The process to calculate square feet of wardrobe:

Assume you're in front of the wardrobe. If the height of the wardrobe is 8'. Lofts are frequently modified in height dependent on ceiling heights, and 8' is commonly regarded as a standard wardrobe height. Determine the width from right to left after that. It is 7' usually with 8’ height. Multiply the two to get the wardrobe's square feet (sqft). As a result, the wardrobe in this case is 8'X7' = 56 square feet. 1) Snap a picture of the space at which the wardrobe will be installed. 2) Measure the distance between the floor and the ceiling, as well as the distance between the floor and the top. You should measure the height of both right and left sides. 3) You have to combine the measurements of both the first side and opposite side to get the width of the space. 4) Across both corners of the wardrobe, take a measurement from front to backside. 5) You should measure the distance from the rear of the wardrobe to the beginning of the door exterior siding. The curtains, window panels, shutters, and other window coverings should be measured in relation to the wall's depth. 6) The distance between the rear of the wardrobe and the entrance of the manholes should be measured.

Factors that affect square feet rates:

1) The price varies with availability and requirement, and also the area's standard of living. This is also dependent on the architect and labour. 2) If you choose high-quality plywood, the square feet cost will be higher. It varies as per your choice and expectations. 3) The design of the wardrobe is also the main part in affecting the wardrobe’s square feet cost. 4) The laminate and sheet you will choose will also result in square feet rates. My kid’s room had a large wardrobe that I put in earlier, but it takes up a lot of space. I thus hired a professional last year to rebuild it so that I could maximise the room's area and organise everything. He started by calculating the square footage that my wardrobe covered. I saw the steps on how to calculate square feet of a wardrobe. I noticed that he only needed to measure the wardrobe's length and width in feet and multiplied them to determine its square feet.

Let me describe it using the measurements of my wardrobe.

  • The expert measured that the wardrobe in my kid’s room was 7 feet in length.

  • When he measured my wardrobe's width from right to left, he discovered that it measured about 6 feet.

  • So, to find out the exact square footage of my wardrobe, he multiplied the length with the width. The result was 7x6 sq ft = 42 sq ft.

You can also determine with precision how much space the wardrobe takes up in your room by using this calculation method. I hope you get an idea of how to calculate wardrobe measurement.

We had a blank space in our bedroom and we were highly interested in converting it into a wardrobe. Before planning anything we decided to know how to calculate area of wardrobe to get an idea of whether a wardrobe could be created there or not. A basic formula needs to be followed for ot. If you are planning to construct or install a wardrobe as well, it is better to be aware of how to calculate wardrobe square feet and know its area. Here is how you can do it:

How to calculate square feet for wardrobe?

Let's take a rectangular wardrobe as an example to help you calculate the square feet of a wardrobe:

  • Main Section: 6 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and 2 feet deep

  • Doors: 6 ft tall, 2 ft wide each

  • Top Shelf: 1 ft tall, 4 ft wide, 2 ft deep

  • Bottom Drawer: 1 ft tall, 4 ft wide, 2 ft deep

Summing up the areas (48 + 24 + 24 + 24) = 120 sq ft.

But if you want any other shaped wardrobe, you need to apply its respective formula.

How to Measure Wardrobe in Square Feet

  • Measure the dimensions of the room where you want to install the wardrobe and sketch a bird's-eye-view scale drawing of the room using a pencil, paper, and ruler.

  • After that, measure the width and height of the space in which you’re planning to keep the wardrobe.

  • Draw the planned wardrobe area on your sketch. Write the height and width measurements as well as the corresponding dimensions.

  • Multiply these measurements to calculate the square feet. For example, if you have a wall area that is 12 feet wide by 7 feet high, multiply these two numbers to get 84 square feet.

Now you know how to calculate sqft for wardrobe. I am assuming you want to calculate the size of wardrobe to find out the cost. In that case, remember that the size of the wardrobe won’t be the only factor that will affect the cost of the wardrobe. There are many other factors as well:

Type of plywood

I suggest you go for marine- or commercial-grade plywood for fabricating the basic structure of the wardrobe.

External finish

Use material finishes like veneer, laminate, glass, acrylic, etc. for the wardrobe’s external facade.

External polish

Some popular finishes used on wood veneers are PU (polyurethane) and melamine polish finish.

Internal finish

The wardrobe’s internal surfaces need to be finished in materials like hand polish, internal laminate, or wood paint.

Hardware

The basic hardware, like handles and hinges, is available at different costs and varieties. Choose as per your budget & taste.

Labour costs

It also depends on the design of the wardrobe.
