Hello Krishna, I came across your query where you were asking about how to calculate water bill from meter reading. I am here to help you with it. You can read the odometer of your water metre to calculate the bill.

What is the Process for Bill Calculation Via Water Meter?

  1. On your water meter, you will see a dial called the odometer. You will see digits in black and red colour. The black portion measures water units consumed in kilolitres where 1 kilolitre equals 1000 litres. The red digits read decimals.

  2. So, for a reading of 549 in black and 3 in red, the reading would be 549.3 kilolitres.

  3. Now, for the calculation, you’d have to subtract the total units consumed since the start of the current bill cycle.

  4. Water boards have set prices depending on the water units for the number of days in a billing period with some extra charges.

  5. Once you have the units consumed, you can multiply it with the per unit rate. It will give you an approximate rate of the bill as other charges are also added to the total bill.

This is all from my side.

How to Calculate Water Bill With Number of Units and Days?

At my house, I have a water meter. I was wondering how to calculate meter reading for water last month as I was gazing at it. I went to my father and requested to tell him the household consumption calculation. According to him, all it takes to do is write down the current reading from the meter, subtract it from the previous reading, and multiply the water usage by the relevant rate. I have shared the detailed steps below.

How Do You Calculate Water Meter Reading?

You can follow the below process that my father suggested to calculate your water bill easily from the meter reading:

  • Take note of the current meter reading after opening the odometer. You can locate your water meter either in a designated utility room or outside your property.

  • Subtract the value you got from your water meter from the measurement on your last water bill to figure out your water usage.

  • Now, for the next step, you should be aware of the billing rates and any extra fees that your water provider might impose. The majority of water providers use a tiered pricing structure. It means that your bill goes up as you use more water. You can get the rates listed on your water bill.

  • Finally, to obtain the actual bill, you should find the product of the water usage by the applicable charge unit rate.

Remember to confirm if additional fees, like sewage or wastewater charges, need to be factored into your computation. These steps make the process of determining the water bill from a meter reading simple for me. I hope you got an idea of water meter reading how to calculate.

How to find consumer number in water bill?

Hey,

I read my water meter to prevent water loss and to calculate bills.  It helps me determine how much water I usually consume over a period of time by keeping a simple log. You should read your water meter too. It can help you detect water flowing that you’re not intending to use, like water theft or leak. Read below to know how to calculate water bill from meter reading:

  • Firstly, locate your water meter and open its lid using a screwdriver.

  • There, you will find an analog meter with a large circular dial that may have one or more moving hands.

  • You will find 9 digits around the analog display’s face, depending on the meter each number represents one KL or one gallon or one cubic foot of water. For every gallon or cubic foot that runs through your house, the long sweep hand will move from one number to the next.

  • Write down the number on the display. You can refer back to this number later when tabbing out your monthly, weekly, or daily usage.

  • Not all municipal corporations measure water usage the same way, so charges may be different accordingly. To know how your bill is structured and how to calculate water meter readings, you should reach out to your local provider or check their official website. You will be able to keep a track of your monthly consumption after that.

This is how to calculate water usage from meter reading.
