If you are a resident of Bangalore, then you are required to pay your water bill to the BWSSB (Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board). The authority issues water bills to every household every month. I always pay before the due date as I don’t want to pay penalties. Water bills mention the amount of water used, so if you know the rates, you can easily do the Bangalore water bill calculation and calculate the amount. Now, as others mentioned, you will need to pay Rs. 7 per kilolitre for up to 8000 L of water, Rs. 11 per kilolitre from 8001 to 25000 L, and so on. So to help you out with the calculation, let me cite an example.

How is the Bangalore Water Bill Calculation Done?

The Bangalore water bill is calculated based on a slab system. For domestic usage, the first 8,000 litres (8 kilolitres) are charged at Rs 7 per kiloliter. Usage between 8,001 and 25,000 litres is charged at Rs 11 per kiloliter. For consumption between 25,001 and 50,000 litres, the rate is Rs 25 per kiloliter. Any usage above 50,000 litres is billed at Rs 45 per kilolitre.

For example, if a household uses 30,000 litres, the calculation is:

  • Rs 7 × 8 (Rs 56 for first 8,000 L)

  • Rs 11 × 17 (Rs 187 for the next 17,000 L)

  • Rs 25 × 5 (Rs 125 for the remaining 5,000 L).

So the total bill amounts to Rs 368. You can follow this same formula to calculate your water bill in seconds. Also, these are the current rates I know of, but you can tally or verify them again if you want.

I have been paying the BWSSB water bill for the last few years but I wasn’t aware of how are BWSSB water charges calculated. To learn about that, I called a friend and asked him about it. He told me that there is a tariff for domestic connections and he shared that with me.

How Water Bill is Calculated in Bangalore?

I have added the tariff for domestic connections below.

Slab Water Tariff (Rs.) Meter Cost (15mm) (Rs.)

8001 - 25000

11

25001 - 5000

26

Above 5000

Following that, he told me about how to calculate water bill by reading the water meter. Here is how.

  • He told me to take note of the current water meter.

  • The next step was to subtract the value from the last water bill.

  • After that, he told me to refer to the tariff charges he provided above and multiply it with the value obtained after subtracting.

He also told me to add the meter charges accordingly to the amount to get the proper bill. I hope this information about how are BSWWB water charges calculated has been of help to you.

Hi there! I have been a resident of Bangalore since birth and know about the BWSSB water charges calculation pretty well. I have been paying for my household water bill for the past 12 years. Before that, my father used to take care of. However, he taught me how to calculate and pay the bill when I was little. He had an attitude towards knowing everything just in case you need to take urgent measures.

The system during his time was quite different, and there were no online means as well. Now, we have various sources for bill payment. I prefer NoBroker’s utility bill payment app for all my needs. The system is secure and quick. In 2013, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board started a new method for water charging. Here is the calculation you need to know with regard to the water bill in the capital city of Karnataka.
