1. Visit the District Revenue Officer (DRO):

• You need to physically visit the District Revenue Officer’s office. Unfortunately, there is no online process for canceling a UDR Patta at the moment.

• File a petition requesting the cancellation of the UDR Patta.

• Provide relevant details about the land and the reason for cancellation.

1. Survey and Verification:

• The authorities will send an official to visit the land and verify records.

• The survey will help resolve any issues related to the UDR Patta.

1. Document Verification:

During the investigation, certain property related documents will be checked and verified

Once all verifications are complete, the cancellation of the UDR Patta will be processed.

UDR stands for Updating Registry Scheme. It was formatted by the government of Tamil Nadu. Under this scheme, the revenue officials conducted a survey and issued Patta to the landowners. Its main aim is to monitor the Transfer of Registry of land ownership and exercise appellate powers under the Natham Settlement Scheme. I came to know about these when my friend asked me how to do the UDR Patta cancellation. I researched about it and got to learn about these details then. Let me share how to cancel UDR Patta here as well.

Do note that to cancel or rectify the UDR patta, you have to visit the District Revenue Officer only. There is no online process to cancel the UDR patta as of now. Here is what you need to do-

• Visit the District Revenue Officer.

• File a petition to cancel the UDR Patta. 

• They will send an official to visit and survey the land and their records to resolve the issue.

If everything goes well, the cancellation will be processed. But do note that during the investigation, some documents must be checked and verified whether they are as per the request of the petitioner or not and the documents are-

• 1916 re-survey settlement forms and settlement documents

• Pre-UDR Chitta Register

• Veterinary certificate until 1987

• Form report of the local authority regarding the petitioner's claim

• Land title registration was held from 1984 to 1986.

• At the time of the development project, the applicant must be the legal owner of the land or have obtained a lease from the real owner. The petitioner can have the purchase deed/ share transfer deed/ Will document

Also, all these documents must be duly registered.

The process is quite long, to be honest. Once the filer submits relevant documents and the government officials verify them, further procedures are to be followed, and that is

• During the hearing, the petitioner, the respondent, the village administrative officer, and the zonal sub-divisional officer must be summoned.

• All the statements of the people mentioned above are to be recorded.

• The record details in the village accounts who owns the dawa land and any court cases related to the dawa land must be included

All errors, cases against the land and more to be rectified before the cancellation. Once all these are done, the cancellation of the UDR patta will be done.
