Recently, I had an unexpected issue with my fan. It started running slowly and created a weird humming noise as it ran. • I then verified that the microfarad ratings of the new and old capacitors were the same. I attached the new capacitor wires to the right terminals, blue to blue and red to red.

• Several sources I read emphasised the need to use electrical tape and wire nuts for secure connections. I put the fan back together and switched the power back on when everything was connected.
