Hey,

The quality of cement is one aspect that impacts the tensile strength of the building. If the cement quality is bad, the structure of the building will start to deteriorate quickly. Many times developers try to scam people by using cheap- bad-quality cement. To make sure, it doesn't happen, I will tell you how to check cement quality.

How to check good cement quality?

Date of packing :

You should check the manufacturing date of the cement on the package. The strength of cement decreases with age.

Colour :

The colour of cement should be uniform. If there is lime or clay then the cement will not look the standard colour (grey with a light greenish shade).

Rubbing:

You should rub cement between your fingers. It should feel smooth. If the cement is adulterated then it will feel rough.

Float Test :

Pour cement into water. If the cement sinks, it is made of good quality. If it floats, it might be adulterated with sand.

You can conduct a preliminary inspection by following the techniques given below on how to test cement. You can conduct the inspection on-site or at the factory.

  • Hand Insertion

  • Smell Test

  • Presence of lumps

  • Shape Test

  • Fineness Test.

  • Consistency Test.

  • Setting Time Test.

  • Strength Test.

  • Soundness Test.

  • Heat of Hydration Test.

  • Tensile Strength Test.

  • Chemical Composition Test.

Good cement should have 0.66. percentage of alumina to that of iron oxide and the total loss on ignition should not be more than 4%. This is all from my end on how to check cement quality.
